School Should Be More Patriotic - 1482 Words

Rough Draft There s nothing wrong with loving your country, but how far could this love go in the classroom? The United States isn t perfect, no one really expects it to be. When teachers teach about the US not so flattering history, it s not to inspire hatred, but to learn from previous mistakes and to not repeat them. Everyone’s definitions of patriotism is different. If by patriotism, having unwavering support for the principles by which this country was founded upon Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness then yes, schools should be more patriotic. Patriotism is why America is a great place to live. Men and women have a strong urge to work and succeed in their lives. Having these principles can get people far in life, but to be patriotic doesn t mean blindly supporting every action our leaders take. Being proud of your country and the individual progress that it has made is extremely important. People may differ in opinion about many things in America today, but that doesn t mean they resent America as a whole. There s so much progress, and some digression, but together as a collective whole, it’s a great country.
